MUSIC FESTIVALS

Throughout the year the area around Soller evidently celebrates more than its fair share of fiestas. Find out below if there happens to be an event in Soller during your trip.

January

January 17 is the eve of Saint Anthony's day. During this time, bonfires are lit and the local people cook sausages on the fires, and sing songs about Saint Anthony and the devil, songs that date back to medieval times. The following day, animals are then blessed at the main square of the parish church.

February

February is the month to celebrate the Carnival of Sa Rua and Sa Rueta, carnivals of colorful parades, costumes and other merriments. Come Holy Week, which may fall either in March or April, religious processions take place throughout the island on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the morning of Easter Sunday.

May

The second week of May commemorates the Soller townsfolk’s victory over the Moorish invaders on May 11th of the year 1561.

June

On the 24th of June, bonfires are again lit, a traditional way to welcome the start of the summer season.

On the 29th of June, the Fiesta of St. Peter, patron saint of fishermen, is celebrated in the fisherman's sector of Puerto de Soller, with a number of sporting and cultural events taking place.

July

The port area of Puerto de Soller is again the central setting of this July festivity, held during the late afternoon and early evening of the 15th of July each year. This day is the Fiesta of Our Lady of Carmen, whereby colorful, well ornamented boats collectively sail around the bay.
