BEACHES

Mallorca has some of the best beaches of the Mediterranean

Mallorca has more than 70 beaches enjoyed by tourist from all around the world. From vast bays packed with tourist facilities to tiny rocky coves only accessible on foot or by boats, Mallorca can be as reliable as can be when it comes to beach affairs.

The main tourist beaches offer every kind of water sport and leisure bustles possible - beach volleyball, windsurfing, water skiing, jet skiing, parasailing and much more! Literally, the phrase “have fun with anything under the sun” is personified, made real, in this vivacious island. Travel around the coast and swoon at the multi-million pound yachts parked in some of the world's most luxurious harbors.

The whole Mallorca island may be considered one splendid full-size beach as it is. However, here are some of the town beaches that are worth visiting:
  • Cala Mayor, where the more serious water sports are held.
  • Puerto de Andratx is especially pleasing because it is very exclusive and not known yet to the packaged holiday clients. This beach is in close proximity with the beaches of Camp de Mar and that of San Telm, which is sheltered by Dragoneraisland.
  • Portals Nous is a small beach between budding urban developments. Mostly used by the yachtsmen and their guests from Puerto Portals yacht club, one can also find plenty of restaurants, bars, and shopping centers in the area.
  • Palma Nova beach boasts of superb fine sand, pine groves and on-going tourist development
  • Magaluf presents its magnificent beach with fine sand and crystal clear waters and much tourist development. Banana-riding is the much-loved activity on this beach. The beach is approximately 900 meters long, and it is one of the biggest British tourist beaches on the island well-known for its nightlife.
  • Illetes. Two coves of some 75 and 150 meters wide. Pine trees stretch as far as the shore which has excellent sand.
  • Santa Ponca is another beach with fine sand and crystal-clear waters.
  • Peguera beach is an interesting tourist resort. It is beautiful, quiet, and with fine sand surrounded by pine trees. Peguera (Pagera) is one of the older and well known beach resorts on the South West part of Mallorca. It is mainly visited by continental Europeans. There are 3 beaches. 2 big and one small.
  • Cala Fornells is small beach with fine sand near Peguera. 100 meters long and 6 meters wide. Sun chairs can be hired. As there are hotels nearby and many summer houses in the area, this place is best visited outside the high season.
  • Camp de Mar is a small beach situated between Peguera and Andratx. The area is now under development. A golf course is under construction and many new houses are being built.
  • Playa Mago was the first nudist beach on Mallorca. Located some 4 kilometers south from Magaluff, the waters are clear and there is a restaurant where you can sit and enjoy the shade. The beach is very small and the parking is limited, so it is best to be there before 11:00 if you have a private vehicle.
  • Pere Antoni is a beach that was made some years back. Just walking distance from the senter of Palma. At the end of the beach towards Portixol there is parking, if full there is available parking in the Portixol marina, towards the end the beach.
  • Ciudad Jardin is located some 5 kilometers east of Palma de Mallorca, between Es Molinar and Cala Gamba. It is a pretty large beach, surrounded by suburban housing.
  • Playa de Palma is popular for bicycling and walking. Along this stretch, you find very many small bars, restaurants and typical tourist shops. This of course gives the area a special character.
  • Beach Arenal is outstanding, the evening sunset is unique. For those that like late nights and a good selection of bars and entertainment, Arenal is the place. During the summer the beaches are lively with both tourists and local residents.
  • Sa Rapita beach is about 1 kilometer long and slightly wider. It is far less crowded than the famous Ses Covettes and Es Trenc further down the coast.
  • Ses Covetes beach is the middle beach on the Sa Rapita - Colonia San Jordi stretch. This is one of the few beaches where hotels were never built. There is a small village and a big parking ground. This area is known to have the cleanest water on the island.
  • Es Trenc located between Campos and Colónia de St Jordi. With very slight development, it is one of the best conserved stretches of shoreline. The beach is 3.5 kilometers long, and it comes with soft white sand, shallow Aqua blue, crystal clear, clean water. It features a protected paid car park and is tremendously popular all through the summer months. The beach itself has a few restaurants, bars and sun beds. It also is well visited by yachts.
  • Colonia Sant Jordi gives a "sleepy" ambiance except for the month of August and the summer week ends.
  • Can Picafort beach generally is very popular during the summer where you can expect sun every day.
  • Cala Mesquida is one of the best beaches on Mallorca. It is one of the few places where you have sand dunes stretching in land. If you are looking for a quiet place with a lot of beach, clear water and relaxing with a quality hotel group, then this could be the place.
  • Cala Deià is a mixture of sand, rock and shingle and crystal clear water. Many popular personalities may be seen walking around the premises of this beach. Walking is also a hobby for the many who live in this picturesque part of Mallorca.
  • Porte de Solller There is a major stream which separates the commercial area of the port from the beach known as Platja d'en Repic . This beach is long (1'100 metres) and very narrow (13 marts), and is mainly a very light shingle beach. The usual attractions are available, such as sun beds, pedalos and first aid, but you also can take boat trips from this beach.
  • Port de Valldemosa. There are actually no boats in the small harbor. Instead, the waterfront is used for sunbathing and swimming. We would advise that you bring along air mattresses because it is a little rocky in this part of Mallorca.
